17x7.5 Sport Tuning T9 & 215/40-17 Potenza RE-11s...

Being the super picky wheel person that I am, I finally decided on a set of wheels for my FiST. Initially I wanted to go with Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2s. Unfortunately the lead time to obtain and the money being on ice for 2-3 months was too much for me to seriously consider. Also I absolutely love the O.Z. Ultraleggeras, especially in black. I had 18x7s on my Focus SVT. After mulling it over for days, I decided against any 17x7 wheel based on the fact that I want to use a 215/40-17 tire and still have a very slight stretched "look". I prefer that over a bulgy side wall. The $1200.00 delivered cost was also a big factor in me not getting these. I also considered the Axis Sport Xplode (which is a Konig Deception knock off) in anthracite. It's a very nice wheel and still weighs less than the stock wheel despite being .5" wider. Can't beat $99.00 per wheel either. However, I had black 18x8 Konig Deceptions and I am really looking for a different style for this car. I also dislike dual drilled wheel blanks (wheels that are drilled for two different bolt patterns so that eliminated many of the other 17x7.5s available). So in the end, I settled for Sport Tuning T9 (at Tire Rack) pictured below and plan on mating them with either Bridgestone Potenza RE-11s or Dunlop Direzza D2s in 215/40-17 size. It's hard to tell what a wheel is going to look like, even with Tire Racks car viewer (it's too 2-demensional) but I think I'm going to like these a lot.

I like them except for the silver lip trim. For me its either all black or nothing. But I do like the spoke pattern design. Enjoy them!

I don't generally care for black at all. To me, they usually just look like expensive Steelies. The spoke pattern on those are really nice, though.

Yeah, I'm on the fence about the rim stripe myself, but that is an easy fix if I don't like it. I can also have the wheels painted anthracite if I decide I don't like the color choice. Silver wheels on a silver car just looks too... "blah". My Focus SVT was silver and I had silver O.Z. Ultraleggeras. They were nice, but just too plain. IMO, black wheels always look good on silver (and white) especially with the contrast provided by red calipers. I'll be interested in seeing the finish of these and whether they are gloss or matte.
The silver ones are too light/bright and a black center cap would be much nicer:

I'm happy with the stock wheels... for now. They'll feel like a nice upgrade when I swap them on in the Spring.

I think if I was getting new rims I'd look at Rotas. I had a set on subzeros on my Prelude and they were great. Nice and light, around 16-17lbs for 17" rims.

Are you planning any other upgrades?

Can you get a set of Rotas in 4-108 bolt pattern and correct offset? I will probably end up with another set of wheels at some point if other choices become available. At $106.00 a piece for the T9s, I'm not too worried about them if I don't like them, I'll just find something else. As for other mods, I may end up lowering the car slightly to get rid of the enormous gap (especially the front gap, which is 3 fingers wide) my car seems to have. lol. I have a Cobb AP and will get the Race Access when it is released (so I can customize my own tune). I will also do an intake, cat-back exhaust, high-flow catted DP and probably a Levels intercooler.
Wheels arrived today from Tire Rack in less than 24 hours. Sorry for the crappy lighting.... but here's a couple of pictures:

215/40-17 Dunlop Direzza D2s will be here on Monday. :D I'm having some black overlays made for the center caps with a red "ST" logo.
I weighed all 4 wheels. Two of them weigh 19.5 pounds and the other two both weigh in at 19.7 pounds. Three pounds per corner less than the stock 17x7s, despite being .5" wider. I'm pleased with that.

Thanks. :) the polished lip has grown on me a lot since they arrived. One thing I have never liked about black wheels (including the Konig Deceptions I had on my MS3) was that it is hard to see where the wheel ends and the tires start. The polished lip will visually separate the two. It is similar to the red lip treatment of some wheels. Looks good on a Ferrari or a sport bike, but not so much on lesser cars. The polished lip looks less "ricey" which is good for old farts like myself.. lol

Mmmm glossy

Yes, I MUCH prefer glossy over matte. They will be much easier to clean and brake dust doesn't stick to them nearly as much...
I do too....thats the only thing i dislike about my assetto's but at least they are not a flat matte. They are lije in between gloss and matte and usually spray Mcguires spray cleaner before I enter the car wash and they cone out pretty darn clean.

Where are you getting those? That's what I want for mine too.

I thought you were getting RE-11s? I've heard they are only good for about 8000 miles with daily driving. What has the forums experience been?

I don't hear much about the Potenza S-04s which I've been running on other cars.
What's the offset on 7.5"? 40mm?

Tire Rack. $106.00 a pop, lighter than stock, wider than stock.
