My autocross season looks like it is already being destroyed by AAU basketball and youth club soccer. At any rate, if I am able to squeeze some events in, I will need new tires. I have had many different plans, but given my circumstances, I am scratching the plans and starting over.

Current plan after talking with Tirerack: 215/45/17 RE-71r's on 17x7 OZ's 42 offset.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

Yeah : at that offset, they'll possibly rub on the outer fender. +45 and they should clear the fender. I don't think anything light sold by TR is that offset, but the Kosei's that come out in 17s next week MIGHT be that offset or higher (still no solid numbers on them).

I believe a lot of folks going the "squeeze as much 17" rubber as possible" route are either running the stock wheels (+47.5 but heavy) or Motegi MR117 (+45, but not sold by TR for whatever reason).

Right. The thing is that the stones tread is .8 slimmer than other tires that size. The section width is the same as the rivals that size, but the tread is slimmer. Has anyone run this size yet?

We think something may be up with the indicated tread width on the Stones on TR website.

Note that if you go by the numbers it says the 205/50R16 Stone has WAY skinnier tread (but almost same section width if you take wheel width corrections into account) than the 225/45R16 Z2SS. From measurements I made, section width (on same wheel for both) AND tread width is basically identical for the 205 RE71R and 225 Z2SS.

Are the RE 71r's an approved tire for Street? I did not think it had been available long enough yet.

How did the 50 series feel at the pro this weekend? You started on the Z2SS first didn't you?

I only ran the Dun-kook combo this past weekend at El Toro. Expect to scrub in the RE71Rs (and ALSO the Rival S if I have them in time...now showing April 2nd ship date but that has been "fluid") at a local event on April 12th as well as TnT the Friday before Crows Tour.

I'll decide then which tire I'm on for the Crows weekends, in conjunction if there are enough Rival S sizes out yet by then to be legal if it proves faster :)

Ah...shows what I remember!! I thought you had the Stones on as well. Really debating getting them now. The Rival S....they have 4 weeks to get the legal stuff done. (I'm guessing they will make it) That could be tempting for Lincoln if all the rumors are true, especially in the 215/45/16 that is one of the sizes that is out.

Have the Stones, didn't run them yet in HS-legal sizes.

I have a set of "daily driver" 205/50R15 Stones that I took some runs on at the Crows Landing CAM Invitational TnT course. My impression of them there (plus seeing what Mark Scroggs did that weekend in his GS FoST on the Stones) is why I ordered the HS legal set the next week :) .

I am going 205/45/17 RE-71R's. I am running those in the front, and I have 215/45/17 Rival 1.0's in the back. Because, cheap. I could also come up with an argument that it will help make the thing steer better. The RE-71r's came yesterday, and they are soft. Should be fun.
