Anyone had their bumper refinished?

I slid into a curb abs scraped up my bumper. Most of it on the underside but a 5"x2" or so bit is on the front. What is a reasonable price fir a repair? The estimate over the phone is $1000 which seems like an incredible stupidity tax. Might need to see if I can do a decent job with a spray can...

The color is Performance Blue if that makes a difference.
