BC Coilover Group Buy with Joe @ 2J Racing

Here's a place to talk about our proposed group buy with 2J Racing.

Several of us expressed interest in buying a set of coilovers, and it's time to see if we have seven or more members willing to commit.

I'm in for a "street setup". I'd like to preserve near-stock ride height, and I'm also interested in options for inverted body shocks and a remote reservoir setup. I don't know if this is even an option for our application, but I'd like to find out.

Assuming seven, what's our price for the standard build, each?

these coil-overs are a killer value, I must say... The number of adjustments, the fact that the ride height doesn't alter the spring rate (like Bilstein PSS), and the fact they are camber-adjustable.. this is usually a $2-3K type of deal with VW's that I'm used to..

Couple of questions:
1. do the height adjustable threads seize forever like so many coil-overs after driving in the North East/Rust Belt?
2. what type of bearing is in the strut mount (that allows for the turning of the wheels)
3. maybe I missed it - but what type of warranty comes with the purchase and how would warrantying say a blown shock work (Found it, 1 year)
4. is it too late to take advantage of the group buy price?

I'm very tempted to get these and go back to the stock wheels if the ride quality is really that much better than stock and I can still tighten things up for track days...

Might want to send Him a Email or call the shop I know they got a new dyno and it is racing season have not seen much of Him of late ...

What spring rates would you suggest for track day/HPDE use as well as daily driving? I don't mind stiff so long as it doesn't shake my teeth out of my head.
The best rates I have found are the 6/4 that we spec'd for the kit. Its ridiculous for daily use - very soft and compliant (better than stock) but you can crank it up 30 clicks and it performs so well on the track. You can get the rear to rotate so nicely.

I don't see 4k. Is that just the stock rate?
Not to answer for Joe ... but the custom spec we got from 2J has 6k front springs and 4k rear. I also ordered a spare set of 5k rears in case the car needs more rotation.
What are these swift springs Im reading about on other car forums people are putting as upgrades to these BC coilivers? Anyone know?

I was more so wondering how I order that spring combo because the first spring on the list for rears is 5k.
Busy Tuesday. Took the day off to get cars out of storage. Was such a nice day that I took off the snows and put on the BC coilovers, RokBlox flaps, and Sparcos with ZIIs. My back will be killing me tomorrow!

How was the coilover install? I've been delaying it... I guess I'll now wait until the exhaust shows up to do it all at the same time.
As I have heard from Joe's original post, it was silly easy. The hardest part was getting the front strut top nuts off as there is one really up under the cowl on each side and the brake filler is in the way (I permanently relocated it so I can easily adjust the struts). You need a couple of zip ties to reattach the ABS wire to the new strut. I fought to get the old anchor off only to realize it wasn't needed for the new strut. I ran an M8 x 1.25 tap through the bracket that hold the front brake line because the nuts were powder coated and the bolt was going in real tight. I didn't like the feel of it. On the rear I just removed the felt fender liners permanently. I couldn't see the shock top bolts with that in the way and it just seems like a recipe for corrosion having the liners in there. In fact I had the interior panels loose before I realized you don't have to do anything inside the car LOL. Make sure you have jack stands and/or two jacks. You really need to lift the whole front and then the whole rear because of the sway bar and twist beam. Doing one corner at a time is no good. Very easy install. Now for alignment!

I suppose "relocate" is a fancy word ... makes it sound professional. I just used a couple of zip ties to attach it to the negative battery cable:

I was really skeptical that it could change dramatically, but Joe was right. With the shocks set on 6 all the way around the street ride is transformed. No more bouncy buckboard ride. Stiffer, yet so much smoother. The road I take to work did not fare well with the winter. Every crack and seam was heaved from frost. Made me feel like a bobble head in the FiST. Now the car glides over that road. It's amazing.

The 16" Dunlops are no harsher than the snow tires, but they do make more noise LOL.

I have to say, these coilovers are top notch quality. I had low expectations, but really they are beautifully made. I am a Koni snob, but really these are just as good in my mind ... and I am hard to impress when it comes to mechanical things.
