My 2014 ST, which has 85,000 miles on it, has repeatedly been getting a P0456 code (small leak in the emissions system) when the check engine light pops on. If I clear the code its good for two weeks or so and then it pops back on. When it comes on it’s usually on a restart with the engine warm and when I drive away quickly after startup without letting the engine run for 20 seconds or so first.

The P0456 code is usually associated with a bad gas cap but of course our cars don’t have a gas cap. I’ve heard that this can be a sign of foreign materials in the flapper but I’ve not seen any issues with it on examination.

The dealer recommends waiting to see if the problem gets worse before bringing it in because they think it’s likely they won’t be able to find the source of an issue so intermittent. In the mean time I’ve stuffed my OBD II scan tool in the glovebox so I can check the code and clear it on my own.

Any suggestions of other items (hoses in the engine compartment maybe?) I should look at? Has anyone else had this issue?

At 85,000 miles, it's possible that your emissions system is getting a little gummed up with carbon residue on a part or two. It will probably get more gummed up over time. Your dealer is right. Once it starts getting more frequent, take it in and have them check the PCV and parts connected to it. Could be as simple as a loose hose. While you're there, have them check all your boost hose clamps, too. They're known to loosen up sometimes.
