USDM 2014 Fiesta ST Support

We are very excited to be first to market with a tuning solution for your USDM 2014 Fiesta ST! Our FOR-001 Accessport will now support the 2014 Fiesta ST. Available immediately is beta vehicle support which includes our v100 Stage 1 OTS Maps for 91 or 93 octane fuel. Also available are non-performance maps such as Anti-Theft Mode, Economy Mode, Valet Mode, and Stage0. Simply update to the latest firmware to add Fiesta ST support to your Accessport!

Internal testing continues on this platform; expect to see additional maps as well as hard parts become available in the near future!

Thats what we have been speculating so far. Likely close to a 250lbs/tq and 250bhp engine is max on the stock turbo. But, this is all speculation so far until we see the power the SEMA cars end up puting down. Simply not enough people have messed with it yet or made their #'s public.
I think that is probably not correct.

From what I've heard, the stock turbo is just too small, maybe 200 at the wheels is possible but to get more a turbo upgrade is likely required.

Once you take that step things get interesting. Any way you slice it, a turbo upgrade isn't going to be cheap and there isn't much out there that is size appropriate. Too big means you lose that quick spool at 2,000 rpm so you want the smallest turbo that can support your HP goal and with all the tricks to decrease spool time.

That points me to the Borg Warner EFR 6258, its about the same size as other options but it has ceramic ball bearings, water cooling, a Titanium Aluminide impeller for much lower inertia than Inconel or other super alloys. That's a turbo that can support close to 400hp. I think on the 1.6 it should easily support 270+ whp if the high pressure fuel pump can keep up and its going to spool about as well as any other upgrade option.

I figure its about a $5,000 upgrade if you can do a lot of the fab work (turbo, header, down pipe, exhaust, cold side plumbing, FMIC upgrade, Accessport with Access Tuner Race, probably a custom cam to help the high pressure fuel pump, etc.

So youre thinking 230bhp is really maxing the little turbo out?

I say we just gotta wait till we see cobbs and fswerks dyno #'s
The maps that are available now do increase the torque and redline.
This of course does add a little more kick.
I don't however expect any more MAPs until after SEMA (hope I'm wrong).

Why wait, the numbers are out there already.

About 181 whp with a 93 octane tune but a big bump in mid-range torque. Boost 20.5 psi at the torque peak, 13.5 psi at red line I think and the boost is low at the top end because the compressor can't flow the volume needed to build more pressure.

So start adding bolt-ons, what will they do, the turbo can only spin so fast...

I predict small, incremental improvements until the main limiting factor can be removed, then some people will go for huge power and give up low end response to get it.

Lastly, even though big torque in the mid-range is fun, our transmission isn't rated for very much and I think our ECU may be programmed to soften the blow. For a nice usable engine, I think 220 ft-lbs held from below 3,000 rpm to 6,500+ rpm would be about perfect, probably not too aggressive and great fun in the car.

Never!

I don't think we will have too much trouble with the transmission.
The FiST uses a very similar Getrag trans as the '04 Mini I had.
I built that Mini to over 300 HP and never had a bet of trouble from the trans or drive line.

Just picked up my Accessport. Had a wild hair up my @#& and drove a little over an hour to FSWerks. Flashed in less than 5 min in the parking lot. Seems like a little bigger of an engine now, torque everywhere!

I've been reading about that transmission and it seems to have entered production around 2010 so if its similar, its not the same thing.

Assuming the cases are properly engineered, the distance between shafts and gear tooth pitch should determine relative strength.

Next time I think about it I'll try to link to the Getrag PDF I found and if you know the exact transmission type in your Mini, I'll look to see if I can find those dimensions and ratios.

I just want to get as close to 250whp as i can with the fiesta.
250whp would be great. 62mph in 2nd gear, 0-62 5.8 - 6.0 sec. Would be awsome!

Sorry, I've been a little lazy! So far there hasn't been any drawbacks at all. The engine is just angrier! It doesn't seem to have affected mpg adversely. Trying to find a good spot to mount it took a bit. I didn't want to mount it up on top of the dash and I didn't want the cable hitting my leg. Ended up putting it on the door instead of the center console. Going to do some data logging before I get my intake to get an idea of its effectiveness.

while interesting, the trick to getting significantly more (decent) hp out of this car will be a different turbo, or perhaps the stock turbo modified ('ive seen that done too).

i would think the last thing you'd need would be the manifold unless the stock one has restrictions or the new one allowed aftermarket turbos with stock placement or nearly so.

stage III+ (what you are talking about) would go something like this:
1. bigger downpipe and turbo back exhaust
2. bigger intercooler
3. slightly bigger turbo
4. bigger intake (perhaps)

i did all 3 (not 4) for my subaru and went from 220 or thereabouts crank HP to 300 whp. this was with e85, slightly less with 93. a larger intake was not needed for my power goals as the subaru stock unit is probably better than aftermarket unless you go front mount and/or speed density tuning.

also, i had to increase my fuel injectors from 550cc to 1000 and go with a bigger fuel pump n the stock location (mostly for e85 goals)

i did all of the modifications myself and then tuned the car myself.

the issues i see with the ST, as long as you keep your goals in check (similar to what i did with the 2003 WRX). is bigger turbo (will aftermarket make stock placement units like they did for the WRX), and more importantly, what will the stock fuel system support or how easy is it to modify?

and then there is the issue of it being front wheel drive and at what point does the extra power become useless or cause problems.

i think the goal of 250 (at the crank) is a solid and probably doable goal but we wont know until the tuners start selling parts and tunes. of course you could go wild with a custom built unit and then use a standalone to tune it but at that point you're better off just buying something else with performance already part of the package or a very easily modified platform.

BTW, i did my WRX with cobb. and one reason i bought the ST is because i knew cobb was gonna support it. im hoping to see a stage III kit from cobb similar to the focus. i will also purchase access tuner race and tweak the tune myself. if the fueling will support it i will tune for e85.

Direct injection probably rules out E-85 because you need so much more volume. Personally that doesn't bother me because there is no E85 around here.

My theory is that the 1.6 should be able to handle a full 20+ psi boost at red line and that translates to roughly 270+ whp with no special fuel required. Add 99 octane unleaded for more boost or increase the rev limit to add power with normal gas. Hopefully the fuel system can be set up for that (it may require a custom cam).

As far as how much power an fwd car can handle, at speed it will take whatever you've got, accelerating from a stop will get tricky and in a tight corner big power is useless but there is no sense limiting your output once you step up to a larger turbo. A power limit won't help your turbo spool faster or make more low end torque, you would just chop off the top of your power curve.

When I get an EFR, I'm hoping for 280+ whp but I will gladly take 330+ if the fuel system can handle it.

What I've heard is that a Miata 1.8 with an EFR will start to spool around 3,000 rpm and make around 350 whp if done right.

My ST loves to cruise at around 80 mph and 3,000 rpm with a big bump in the torque curve and 20 psi until redline, there are few cars that could equal it on the freeway.
