Unlike the Focus ST, which shares the same brand of ECU in both the North American and European cars, the North American Fiesta ST ECUs are manufactured by a different vendor. At least that's the way I understand it.

This of course has the possibility of slowing down the R&D of ECU tuning on the North American cars. It may be a non-issue. But, I just wanted to share the info.

Maybe someone with more direct knowledge will be able to shed some insight.

Yes, this is true. UK and US ECU programming is segregated on the FiST. The euro cars are also MAF based whereas the US cars retain the MAP based system used similarly to the FoST.

VW refused to honor the powertrain warranty on my 2011 GTI after it spun a bearing stating alternately, I had a tune (APR) and I competed in it (SCCA autocross). Then APR discovered the oil pressure drops below 10 psi under hard cornering loads...bazinga! But no joy. That's why I'm trading it for a FiST...

In meetings with Ford Racing, I have expressed the need for a factory-backed upgrade path that keeps the warranty intact on more than one occasion. It's not necessarily that they don't want to do it. It's just that it's a labyrinth of issues when you're talking about that type of program.

The Montune video from Ford Europe aluded to the fact that they would honor warranty claims with STs equipped with their products in Europe.... Montune IS opening a development/research/marketing facility in SoCal this year.... coincidence?

We have a direct line to mountune so, if and when that would be announced, we'll have the news. However, due to US and European laws being so different, I'd have to say that I wouldn't hold my breath. But, they may surprise us.

Any further comments or progress on this thread? I drive a UK spec FiST and have been in contact with Cobb over the last few days and it sounds like they have not done any, nor do they plant to anytime soon, do development for the 'world' Fiesta Anyone know of anything different? Maybe they are just wanting to keep it all under wraps until it is complete. In about 3 months (Mountune releasing aftermarket tunes for FiST in US), Cobb will be the only guys left who don't have maps/hardware for both specs of FiST.

The Cobb hardware will work, you just need software to tune, plenty of places in the UK can do that.

I am specifically interested in the AP3 platform and unfortunately I am not in the UK. I have tied up with a ST community locally and the consensus is that we have some cowboys tuning cars and the AP3 platform is the only route to go if you want to revert back to stock software for warranty purposes and is also one of the safest bases to work from. Anyone got some contacts in Cobb who might be able to assist or shed some light on a timeline for getting world spec ST software out?

The Cobb hardware will work, you just need software to tune, plenty of places in the UK can do that.

The Accessport will not recognize a non-US Fiesta ST, so it will not work on a European FiST. Sorry :/

We are investigating world support, but not having access to a vehicle in house due to the differences in tuning strategy is a major limiting factor.

Hey Drifter. Thanks for the headsup. I am aware of Finsport's flash lead. I have also been following some of your posts on the local SA ST owner's forum. Do they also have a tuning platform like AccessTuner? From what I read and heard, I do not fully trust overseas OTS maps for our local conditions (fuel, altitude, temperatures).

Its not really an OTS map. You need to download your current map and e-mail it to them. They then look at values stored in YOUR ecu, and adjust accordingly, before they send you a map. Each cars ECU map tables will look different than a stock map off the factory floor.
