Being a proud owners of a few nice machines, with one closely resembling the Evo being my 2001 Audi B5 RS4 and the King of the mountain being my 1994 Euro E36 M3, I can say the little new comer is standing tall and proud. Yes the power is inferior to the 420hp wagon and the weight is substantially more than my 1991 Miata. But it is the combination of the low end torque and the nimbleness of the chassis, the torque vectoring that has virtually all but killed any understeering. Or that waggy tail on sudden throttle lifts that puts a smile on my face even though I have been an FR for life (Suzuki Swift Sport was a great little mistake few years ago).

Yes the Evo would in no doubt pull harder and corner faster but having never driven one I am not qualified to make a direct comparison. But I have owned a 2000 GC8 STi RA, an 2006 GDB prior to this RS and suffice to say, these 4WD are a very different experience altogether. They gave me a sense of security and confidence came in abundance no matter what terrain or weather they face. Acceleration and outright pace is unmatched, but I never felt involved. I couldn't tell how far the adhesive limits were at mid corner or when the boost might come (NA rules here but the modern Ecoboost FiST showed very little lag).

Its all about driver involvement, interaction between human/machine/road. The Miata gave me all that but lacks the everyday refinement and practicability, the cocoon like security of a solidly build modern hatchback etc. You wouldn't go wrong in buying either but ask yourself what do you prioritize when behind the wheel?

Sorry for my poor English, its my second language and I am just someone outside of USA who find this the best FiST forum by far.

PS I would never walk away from my M3 for a FiST or any car for that matter.

RS4 Avant :D how did you like it?
Sometimes I hate that USA can't have nice things.

It goes like stink, but sadly corners and brakes like one too. Some proper upgrades is a must to not just turn it into a proper ride but necessary to inspire driver confidence.
