I was lookin at Evo MR as a possibility a while back, checked out Golf R's, Mustang GT's all kinds of other vehicles...

I ended up buying a 2010 Camaro 2SS/RS m6, and then went on to a 2010.5 SVT Raptor with the 6.2L. When I was out car shopping again, I had checked out a lot of more expensive vehicles... Plenty of RWD.. And even the '86...

Ultimately I ended up in the ST.. and I am super happy with my purchase.

Half the power, twice the fun. All I can say.

Test drive one though and see for yourself. You may not feel the same way as a bunch of Fiesta ST owners/future owners/fans.

But yeah if you're on the fence, a test-drive is really your only option!

I would think that waiting for better deals isn't a bad idea if you are not going to take any issue with waiting.

I personally got a pretty good deal as I took advantage of Employee pricing + some other incentives, and a really good deal on my trade in. In the end, they paid me to take the car ! but my OTD was shy of 24k all in if I recall correctly, with Recaro's & Green Envy paint. (Not bad by Canadian standards).

I wasn't able to get dealers anywhere near close on pricing of GTI's.. A GTI was going to cost me a LOTTTTTT more than my FiST cost me.. All I can say is that locally VW dealers are mental. They wanted my trade-in + 11-14k.. FOR A GTI !!! I got the FiST + 12.5k cash back. No brainer.

GTI's a nice car though... But it didn't make me grin. I love the Golf R. My only two complaints are that I don't feel the price is justified, and it would have been nice if it had a little more to separate it visually from the rest of the Golf line. (I guess my third less significant complaint would be that it didn't live up to the r32 exhaust note).

I have to say though... No argument, the Golf R is more car. (You are paying for it, afterall).. But even that car didn't make me grin a fraction as much as the FiST.

The stab. cntrl issue wasn't an issue for me though, as it is defeatable in Canadian models.

I wouldn't really consider owning a GTI now that I've got a FiST... but I'd still love a Golf R.... I don't foresee ever going that route though. For that kind of money there are too many other directions that make more sense. Get back to me with an AWD Scirocco R priced a little more competitively and we'll talk.

Anyway, back to the original topic...

I don't think you can FiST vs an Evo.... in any direct way..... But as far as a balance between fun/practicality/cost/comfort.... It's an easy choice for me.. And some people are going to weight various factors differently and will choose in the opposite direction.

Drive both, pick one :) Sounds like either way you'll be stuck behind the wheel of a nice car.

If cost doesn't matter, and both serve your "needs" then I suppose it boils down to the feeling you get behind the wheel. So get behind the wheel :p
