Perhaps not with the One Ford vision a smaller car has a more world wide appeal than just here in the crown vic loving NA market. VW does great things with that little POLO .. just saying it is not just for this Hatch hating NA market,,
I wish VW would bring us the Polo and rumored Polo-R. That would be cool. Or the Scirocco. But, not going to happen. Americans don't like hatchbacks, and don't like small cars. Because having a small car means you are not successful, and big is everything in 'Murica.
While you are correct about the US market, compact hatches sell extremely well in my market, and in Europe. As for a business model, if that was the only factor in a manufacturer's decision whether to make a specific car or not, well... There would be one car and Camry would be it's name-o. Sometimes passion drives a model to exist, the mistake being flooding a market with sub par versions of it, or blowing the whole budget, or letting bean counters say "do we really need this model?". I am fairly certain that a Fiesta RS is on the horizon, otherwise the Focus RS drivetrain development will bury that car as a one and done model. I don't know how independent the Ford Performance group is as an entity(I've scoured the web for even a cursory web site, and failed), but they likely have to justify their existence to Corporate Ford. I would suggest that the possibility of a Fiesta RS will only justify itself if the Focus RS sells out in stupendous fashion.(see dodge Hellcat) the focus RS is an extremely limited model line(700 to Canada, maybe 5000 to the U.S.?), and I don't see why a Fiesta RS wouldn't be limited just as sharply. As I said earlier, ForPerf may just tweak the Fiesta ST and call it a Fiesta STR(lol FiSTr), but it MUST be a mini beast in order to earn the RS monicker, otherwise I bloody hope it's not applied to a body kit and stupidly vast spoiler with "improved air flow, and louder muffler for a gain of 5 hp".

I truly believe that word of mouth is killing the Toyburu coupes. If all the cool kids say it's fun, but gutless, then the majority of potential buyers will look elsewhere. If they would just cram the H4 from the WRX in that car, then they would likely sell them like crazy.

Golly I didn't know I was one of the cool kids that didn't like the gutlessness of my FRS.

Lol! You are cool Rod, and I wish any of my cars had the power of your cars!

I was speaking more about silly fan boys that like to use the word "rice" to describe anything that isn't what their bros like. I think those twins are awesome, but I also like Miatas...
