im currently an owner of a 2012 subaru legacy gt that is a rare car. because subaru stopped production of the gt in 2011. i had ordered a 2011 but was delivered in 2012 so i am one of 297 2012 owners. that being said, its now garaged and will stay that way for a good deal of time and kept as a collectable only due to the year of production being rare.

it is fully paid for so, ive looked around at something affordable with some potential to be a great piece of machinery and i have dropped off at the fiesta st. i plan on going balls to the wall on performance to make something i can be proud of building up.

i plan to pic one up in the next 6-8 months.

i do have some questions about the audio systems to pic from. i am a bass head at heart. i plan on putting in an after aftermarket double din headunit. looking at the factory setup is it possible to replace the factory headunit? im not worried about replacing speakers, adding amps, and my subs, just need info on factory replacement.

has anyone done any upgrades to the factory unit? if so what has been done?

With the MyFord Touch system fairly well integrated into the functions of the car (Gen 1 Sync Systems were easier to keep the menu functions separate from the radio), I don't think you'd be able to put in an aftermarket head unit without major modifications to the BCM (basically going the route of purpose-modified racers and developing your own code to replace functions lost by MFT). The Sony head unit is relatively robust, and you should be able to easily integrate an amp & speaker set into it.
Your only other option is a complete sidecar system where you 'create' a separate audio system from the rest of the car's internals. However this way you'll have to mount the head unit elsewhere, and there's no real convenient location in the center stack.
