I did something incredibly stupid, please help put my mind at ease.

Well, I've only had my ST two weeks and already I'm screwing it up.

Last night I left the driver's side window down while it was parked on the street overnight. This morning, I noticed that the hood was popped - but still the latched position. Other than that, there is no sign that anyone was in the car. The doors were still locked (the center-console lock/unlock button is perhaps too confusing?) The few things I had in the glove box and the center console are still there; the driver seat wasn't moved, and it doesn't smell like poop.

The thing that is freaking me out is that it just doesn't make any sense for someone to reach in the window, pop the hood, and then walk away. The car runs and sounds fine - does anyone see anything amiss in this picture? What besides the battery or spark plugs could someone want under the hood of a car - if not just to rip out wires and cause trouble, which doesn't seem to have been the case?

What an idiot... Please help me feel better.

Everything looks ok to me. I see the sound symposer there. Maybe someone just wanted to see the engine?

Here's a pic of the engine with no tampering

Perhaps someone did it just to let you know they could have. :)
As long as it doesn't smell like poop I say you are good to go.:)

Maybe they were just checking out your sweet ride. :)

Thanks guys. I have decided that instead of stressing myself out over what might be wrong with the car, I am going to (try to) focus on how lucky I am that it didn't end up being much, much worse. Hopefully no surprises further down the road...

Were the doors locked? If you pop the hood by reaching in the window with the doors locked, the alarm will go off and the car will start honking. If this happened, it probably scared them off.

That is great to know - the doors were locked - so hopefully that was indeed the case, although I would have thought it would have woken me up from right outside - but I am a pretty good sleeper.

I'll test this tomorrow.

Thanks again!
Well, if you can't spot anything wrong, then I wouldn't get too worked up about it :) I am sure with all the worrying you did, you analyzed and over analyzed the crime scene...Probably would have picked up on anything out of place by now... Personally, I have left the hood popped on a new car many times, as the button was in a new location and I unintentionally hit it... Could be coincidentally, you left it popped and the window open at the same time & gave yourself a scare.

Unless you live in an area known for people stealing from cars... Odds are most people wouldn't even notice the window open in the middle of the night.
Not many people walking around and most would be too tired to snoop/notice.
I think they stole your blinker fluid. :p Not sure why they'd pop your hood. The reason most people that would want in a car is to take the stuff inside it, not to look at the engine bay. Even if they did, the FiST doesn't have a necessarily good looking engine bay. But who knows, maybe it was some teen walking around and the car peaked his interest. Remember to leave your windows up from now on. If it was my car, there's no way in heck I'd leave it parked on the street.

The hood requires you to pull a handle under the dash. It's not a button.

I walk by cars all the time with windows open or convertible tops down. I think it's completely stupid to leave your car like that intentionally (well and convertibles are just completely stupid, but that's a whole other subject). I've heard people say they leave their keys in the car (with it unlocked unless you didn't think that) all the time. They must live in some kind of low crime area because if a thief wants or needs a car they aren't always worried about make model and prettiness so much as how easy is it to steal, and a car unlocked with the key in the ignition is about the easiest.

I live in an area where I'm pretty safe to leave my phone in the cupholder and GPS on the windshield. I try and stay away from seedy areas, and if I have to park there, I'll hide my stuff.
