I think they stole your blinker fluid. 
Not sure why they'd pop your hood. The reason most people that would want in a car is to take the stuff inside it, not to look at the engine bay. Even if they did, the FiST doesn't have a necessarily good looking engine bay. But who knows, maybe it was some teen walking around and the car peaked his interest. Remember to leave your windows up from now on. If it was my car, there's no way in heck I'd leave it parked on the street.
The hood requires you to pull a handle under the dash. It's not a button.
I walk by cars all the time with windows open or convertible tops down. I think it's completely stupid to leave your car like that intentionally (well and convertibles are just completely stupid, but that's a whole other subject). I've heard people say they leave their keys in the car (with it unlocked unless you didn't think that) all the time. They must live in some kind of low crime area because if a thief wants or needs a car they aren't always worried about make model and prettiness so much as how easy is it to steal, and a car unlocked with the key in the ignition is about the easiest.
I live in an area where I'm pretty safe to leave my phone in the cupholder and GPS on the windshield. I try and stay away from seedy areas, and if I have to park there, I'll hide my stuff.
