I just registered for the Ford ST Octane academy:

After a long wait, registration is open and I'll be at Miller Motorsports Park next April.

I signed up for the limited liability policy, I'm not sure about the second day, $995.00 is expensive. I'll have to price out Skip Barber and other local schools to see if the price and an extra night in the hotel is worth it.

Any way, if you bought an ST and want your free (or cheap) track day, go and get it!

I spoke to them on Friday. Apparently ZERO track time.. J-turns and stuff like that.. If I lived nearby I would go, but not worth the flight for me. I'll use it for a BMW CCA HPDE in the spring instead.

Seriously ?? i can do that on the lake ... Guess i'll put the money towards a few track days at Road America or something after i do a driving school at BHF...
Yeah, I specifically asked if it is anything like HPDE - they said that the Mustang thing for $1K is like that, but the ST stuff is more like tricks, etc, and no track time. Probably still awesome, but I'll save that money for two local track events....

I just signed up for an April date as well.
I am also not sure about the second day as I don't think it will be worth the money.
I hope to do a self defense/stunt driving school next year as well and need to save the money for that.

Me and a friend who owns a Focus ST will be going on July 2.

WOW...that is very disappointing and their web site does not make that clear, in fact the FAQ implies that there is track time and lots of it

How much time is spent in the classroom vs. track time?
Participants will spend roughly 20% of the time inside in the classroom, including lunch. The remaining 80% of the day is spent behind the wheel. These times are approximate and may vary slightly.

Anyway, thanks very much for the info, had been looking forward to the school and was about to register but it now does not sound worth the time and money to get there for parking lot antics. Hopefully they will change the site to make things clear, otherwise can imagine they will have some VERY pissed off students to deal with at the "academy".
(I emailed them for more info and am awaiting a reply, and may also contact Ford depending on the outcome)

That's not good. Hardly worth paying for flights and hotel and rental car if there's no track time. If we're not at least running the Autocross course, I'll be cancelling.

Skippy School is $3900...............
Someone at Miller got back to me very quickly and sounds like the course is indeed as audiphile described...hopefully they will update the website ASAP, the lack of info is creating a bad situation for all concerned...

The detailed description is currently being created and should be on the website shortly. In a nutshell the program consists of: forward and reverse 180 degree turns, braking techniques, skid car skills, road track time, UrbanX course driving, parking in a box. It is definitely worth your time to attend.

I don't doubt it's worth the time. The question is: Is it worth paying for flights, hotels and rental cars? Hopefully they get the daily details posted quickly. IMO, they should have had that posted when the registration opened. Their site says details coming in Autumn 2013. I guess they have 5 days till Winter officially starts. :)

"skid car skills, road track time, UrbanX course driving,.........."\

What's road track time? I agree; more details are needed...
I have done some checking and the one COMPLEMENTRY day will cost me about $800.00.
There had better be some nifty SWAG.

Dave
A day of track time in a car you don't own is worth more than the flight and hotel.

I expect that My expenses including travel and the liability policy will be under $700.

I will be going.
This is not the first FREE thing I have received that has cost a fair amount of money.
I am hoping to cut another $200.00 by getting a free condo for the weekend.

That's the problem. They've said there's no track time. I guess even a day of hooning in somebody elses car is worth something. I'll wait to see what the schedule shows before I decide whether to cancel.
So far the only track time is if you buy the second day.
As much as I would like too, I can't see the limited time for $995.00.
I am also sure there would some added expenses.

Dave
Skid cars are so much fun if it's what I think it is. Also doesn't it include a tour of Hoonigan racing or something of that nature? That's something I think could really make it special.

Honestly, what a crock of sh*t. They should be ashamed about the false advertising; sounds like it's more of a ponzi scheme to get you to sign up for the second day, than a company that really wants to reward its customers with a fun day with a car they can learn on. I'd give it 10 thumbs down, if I had them.
