I'm buying an ST. Fiesta or Focus ???

Hope you guys can help me out here. I can't decide which ST to buy. Here's the deal. I'm in my 50's but have always loved hot little cars. I recently had a 2006 WRX that I bought new, and loved it. Then, I got stupid for some reason and traded it in for a BMW 128i. It gets worse.... It had auto transmission!

Now I want to have the thrill back. I am looking at many reviews/videos/etc of both Fords, and I'm beggining to thing the Focus looks like a station wagon from the side. It's too long. It doesn't have that rally-car size. On the flip side, The Focus is no slouch either. And chances are it will have greater resale value when the time comes.

My wife and I have no kids, and so I'm usually driving around in an empty car. She does all the shopping in her beater Matrix.

Am I talking myself into the Fiesta here? I think I am. Help.

I drove both, though not same day. The Focus was/is a great car, but was softer, less sporty with regards handling, but clearly a bit faster. But for fun driving about town, the Fiesta won me over in a heartbeat. Fun and "tossable", fast though not ridiculously so, reasonably economical, and great in traffic. The FiST is cute; the FoST was trying to be cute. My sister-in-law called the FiST sexy. She thought the FoST looked "cool". I don't think there was a bad choice, but the Fiesta consistently punched the right buttons for me.

I've ridden in a Focus but haven't driven one. While their superior equipment levels (in Oz-spec cars at least, where there are no available options) probably make them a better everyday proposition, I prefer the look of the Fiesta. And, from all the reviews I've read, it's about the best little car the world has seen...

Let me put it this way: it makes me not miss my old Focus RS too much...

Hehe... I had the Mk II. The Mk I was never sold in Oz, and there are a total of three in the country. I came close to buying one of them late last year, but the owner wanted more than I could spend - almost Mk II territory.

I originally sold mine so I could buy an Escort Cossie, but the exchange rate plummeted almost immediately, Ford came out with a great deal on the FiST, and -- well -- let's just say the EsCos is on the backburner for (quite) a while...

Here are the past and present. The good thing about having sold it to a friend is that I still get to play with it sometimes.

Aesthetically and ergonomically, I prefer the Fiesta, but the Focus is more composed, has a more settled ride, and has the power and space advantage. Depends on your day-to-day driving.

Interesting. I also have heard rumors of a focus rs. Sadly, I don't think they will make a fiesta RS.

I'm believing nothing about the next RS either way until I see something official...

Anyway, back on topic, BUY A FIESTA.
