Local Race Gas

It's been a while since I did a search for racing fuel, but it turns out I have more options than I thought.

Amber Racing Services is nearby in Long Beach!

This isn't nearly as convenient as the good old days when I could get unleaded race gas at the pump, but it might work in a pinch. I'll check prices, and will probably pick up a five gallon container to test. That's basically half a tank for our Fiesta ST! I can see mixing to get a reliable 93+ octane.

Anyone happen to have a better or more convenient source in Long Beach, South Bay, or OC?

Confirmed: Huntington Beach Car Wash in HB has Sunoco race fuel, 100 octane. It's presently $9.75/gallon.

Rather than try a lower mix of octane (for not much less money!), I sprung for a full tank of 100. I'd like to get a conclusive answer on the 93 octane map issues. I'm going to update that thread now...
Since I have a photo of the pump, here it is!

$9.75/gallon feels like a lot to me -- I still have $4.50/gallon as my baseline! :)

I know of only one place close to me and I think the price is about the same.

BTW,
The pumps should be open at Willow as well.

Oh yeah, I'm counting on it! It's been a reliable source every time I've been in the past. I figure I'll limp in with about 1/4 tank of fuel and mix in 5 or 6 gallons of high-test. Depending on what we see with Cobb's update, I may run 100 and try the revised 93 program, again.
Some of my fondest memories of Willow.

I love the smell of race gas in the morning.

Here in Toronto you can get 83oc/$1.27 a litre up to 94oc/$1.47 a litre.. Which is better?

You should use the 94 in the FiST and be glad you can get it.
All we get here is 91 at normal pumps.
The race gas is only for special occasions because of the price.

Does it affect the performance/driving of the car? My last fiesta SE I used just reg gas.

You could use the 83 but you will see better performance with the 94.

I can rotate the usage of 83 and 94??
Or you could mix the two.
But I think after testing you WILL like the better performance you get from the 94.

Yes, I agree -- definitely run the 94! This car's engine management is sophisticated enough to run lower octane, but at reduced power. I believe my owners manual states the low end of the range at 87, but I don't see why it couldn't run 83.

If you want performance, get the best gas you can. This is one car that really takes advantage of it.

I spend about $90/mth on reg gas and higher octane about about $135
Higher octane less miles per gallon?
That is not completely correct.
Although the higher performance is intoxicating and the excitement may cause your right foot to get heavier.
You can drive conservatively and get better mileage.

Like Dave said, other factors hurt your fuel economy on a fun car! :)

If economy is your game, then it's actually true that you are more efficient with the lowest octane that your car can safely run. Consider the raw fuel needs of low vs. higher octane values, and it seals the deal (and a big reason why we're limited to 91 octane in CA).

For fun, I'm going to run the Cobb economy map one day. Others have seen considerable increases in efficiency, but what fun is that?! :)
In Southern California...
