On the ST the USB is only powered when the screen is on. Once the screen turns off or the car is locked it turns off power to the USB. I just went out and bought a 12VDC adapter that plugs into the power point and gives me 2 USB ports to charge. They also charge much faster than the USB ports built into the car. I use Bluetooth to stream my music to the car.
