This will have a lot of pictures so I just put it up in the pictures section.

I'll be doing some comparisons between my modified 2003 Ford ZX2 and the Fiesta ST because that's what I've been driving for the past 5 years.

Here's my review of it from the viewpoint of an everyday driver of a modified Ford economy car that enjoys driving cars and doesn't do any autocross or track days.

Some of you have already seen the previous pictures I've posted of the ST at my local dealership. I went back because it was closed on Sunday and Labor Day so I could actually get good interior pics and hopefully a test drive. Well they let me do a test drive right off the bat. I barely even got to look inside. lol I took about a 10 minute drive down a less traveled highway in the area. It was not hard to get the car to 80. This is the first turbo car I've ever driven. But I could tell right away when the turbo kicked in and it was quick. I was cruising down the highway in 5th gear and it seemed fine at about 70 so I shifted to 6th. Then I put my foot down. It still had some get up...at 70 in 6th. You can forget about doing that in my N/A ZX2 in 5th.

The sound symposer, or whatever it's called, wasn't overly loud like I thought it might be. It makes about the sound you'd want to hear when accelerating (I mean I'd assume if you want an ST you probably want to hear the engine noises) and quiets down when you're not on it. The cabin was pretty quiet on the highway (in my standards) for having low profile tires and generally being an econobox car. My ZX2 is lowered with 17" wheels and low pro tires and it's pretty hard to talk to the person in the passenger seat without talking loudly, and talking loudly is not my strong suit. I could talk to the salesman in a normal talking voice and he could hear me fine. Yeah it's got road noise still. If you happen to be coming from some type of luxury car with oodles of sound deadening, it's gonna be loud in comparison.

The shifter wasn't as short as I had hoped it would be. I don't really know if it's short at all since I've never driven the 5 speed Fiesta. I have a TWM short shifter in my ZX2 and it definitely makes a difference. I think the one thing I'd change on this car is swapping in a shorter shifter. Is it terribly long? No. But being that it's a performance oriented car in the first place, a short shifter belongs on this car no doubt. Like i've said in the past (and I even said it to the salesman), if I had a factory (stock, no mods) car with a manual transmission and I could only change one thing, the short shifter would be the one thing I did. That being said, my lowering springs for handling are my favorite mod on my ZX2...yes, that didn't make any sense... :p Oh yeah, For those of you not in the know (I didn't know until I drove it), you pull up on the top of the shift boot and it disengages the reverse gear lockout. So you can't accidentally shift into reverse instead of first. That was one thing I was worried about.

Having driven a could 2012 Fiestas I got a test drive in a 2012 SES with a leather steering wheel. The leather steering wheel in my ZX2 is excellent. It feels good to touch and is soft. That 2012 leather wheel was absolutely horrid. That was the hardest most plastic-y leather I've ever felt and I was hoping beyond all hope that it didn't carry over into the future Fiestas and ST. Yay! The leather wheel on the ST is excellent. Great to touch, soft and not loose on the wheel either. My one complaint about the steering wheel (and it goes for all Fiestas and many Fords in general lately) is that I can't hold the wheel at the very bottom like I like to in my car. The middle of the wheel kinda comes to a point right there at the bottom so I gotta hold it at the top or either side of the bottom part. Really not a big complaint and I'd get over it quickly once I took delivery of an ST, but something to think about.

The AC controls were easy to use for me and I definitely had to use them, it's too hot out there. Might be a bit confusing for the less technically minded at first. I guess the knobs are all digital now so when you change the fan setting or temp setting there is that slight delay from when you turn the knob to when it changes on the screen and turns the fan down or up. Just something worth noting for people like me that have only used the mechanical AC controls. I didn't use the My Ford Touch unit, but it really seems fairly straightforward to use (again for the technically minded). All the vehicle controls were right where I thought they should be (fairly similar to my ZX2). BRGT350 complains about the armrest as the worst thing on planet earth...ok well maybe not, but he hates it because it's useless for him and he hits his arm on it while shifting. He's shorter than me. I'm about 5'10" tall or so. I didn't even notice the armrest being there. I don't care for center console armrests because i think they get in the way like he does. I don't know how useful it would have been as an armrest as you can see in the pictures where I have my seat is right up next to the armrest making generally useless with the Recaros. As long as I don't hit my elbow on it I really don't mind. The inside of the armrest sports the 2 USB ports and SD card slot and a small storage area. A great place to collect a bunch of junk...at least it has a cover so you can hide said junk without it looking unsightly. It has a powerpoint in the center console near the shifter and handbrake, and one in the rear by the rear cupholder. Like my ZX2, the rear cupholder doesn't seem real deep, so I'd probably refrain from using it for cups with liquid in them. Push to start is cool and you don't have to deal with pulling out your keys or your keys dangling by your leg, but it's not one of those necessary things. If it didn't come standard I'd likely skip it. On the subject of the keyless, the salesman got out of the car to move a golf cart and the car chimed and showed a message on the screen that the fob has left the car since he had it on him. I believe once you start the car you can go without the fob until you turn it off and turn it back on so if it happens to fly out the window while driving, just be sure to keep it running and keep the tank full. :p

The Recaro seats felt great. I had no problem fitting into them. I wear a 34 waist pants size for general reference. I have high thigh bolstering seats in my ZX2 as well and after a long drive it kills your back, your wallet is eating into your butt...in other words you're miserable and can't wait to get out of the car. While a 10 minute drive is hardly a 4 hour trek, I never felt any discomfort and i think I wouldn't have any problem driving the car for a long trip. The Recaro seats are a must for the ST. I didn't really think about sitting in the regular seats of one of the sedans they had to get a feel for the regular seats, I don't think they'd even hold a candle to the Recaros. The one big problem with them is getting into and out of the car I rubbed on the thigh bolstering. Unless you changed how you got into the car that would likely become a very large hole in the seat. I don't like leather because it tends to get hot in the sun and the car was sitting in the sun but the partial leather didn't really bother me. If it was all leather I'd probably have a different opinion.

The molten orange is a great color. I can't seem to take a great picture with it not looking so red, but believe me you have to see it in person; it's a great color (so long as you like orange).

The dual height floor in the hatch...I'm not really sure how it works. I put it down in the lower position, but it doesn't work like BRGT350 showed because the spare tire is too big. So I'm not sure how he made that work. The salesman didn't know either. I was the one who told him about it. I would keep it in the higher position anyway so I really don't care.

That's all I can really think of right at the moment. If I think of something or you have questions I can post it later.

Molten orange was the color I was 100% set for until I started seeing pictures of it that it actually looks more red than orange. I was expecting it to look like the color of my avatar. I guess I have to wait to see it in person before I make a decision.
When you see it in person it is more obviously orange. That being said it's a red-orange. I'm not crazy about red, but I love the orange and you can tell it's orange in person in the sunlight and the sunlight is always where it's going to look the best. I've seen some better pictures that show the orange better, it's just really hard to photograph, believe me, I tired to get it as good as I could...

Thanks for the review. I noticed the foam thing in the spare tire isn't there due to the larger size - does the ST not come with the funnel for the gas tank/jack/etc?
I didn't check for the jack and tire iron and I didn't even really know they came with a funnel, but I'm sure it's in there somewhere. I really don't think they'd include a spare tire without the tools to change it... :p

That's one thing I've been wondering. I want the sunglass holder, but it's not on any of the Fiestas with a sunroof. I would assume since the S, SE, and Ti get then sunglass holder without the sunroof, the ST probably gets it as well, but all of the Fiesta Movement cars have sunroofs and not a lot of STs are really around yet besides so it's kinda hard to confirm. Whenever someones order/dealer stock without a sunroof comes in post a picture of the interior roof to confirm that. I'm going to the Ecoboost Challenge this Saturday and I'll look at those, but I think all those STs have sunroofs as well.

I'm not sure how they'd find room for a sunroof and a sunglass holder. On the ST, where the sunglass holder would fit is probably where the sunroof motor is which is the reason for one or the other.

For reference, here is one with no sunroof and sunglass holder.

Here is a couple I found on autotrader, all the ones that I saw that have sunroofs look exactly like the ST I saw, no glasses holder.

Everything points to the ST getting a sunglass holder without a sunroof. Personally I'd skip the sunroof anyway, especially if you plan to keep the car more than 5 years because like all the others I've seen, it's gonna break. Plus you get more headroom for tall people. I sat in the back of the ST and my head was literally touching the roof sitting straight up. I sat in the back of a 2012 w/o a sunroof and I didn't have that problem. I didn't get any taller in a year and a half. I know it's a small car, but it doesn't need to be any smaller.

sounds like you enjoyed the car! As for the dual floor, it took some wiggling back and forth to get it to sit down properly. I don't know what keeps it up. Once wiggled into place, it sits on the top of the tire and is basically the same height as my 2011 floor. What sucks is the opening between the back seats and the floor part. I lose papers, small groceries, and who knows what else under the back seat. I will fix it by getting the rear floor parts out of a 2011-2013 car. Probably the center console as well.
looks.
Yeah it seemed like ti was getting stuck on something. I thought it was just that the spare was too large and I was wondering if maybe you had your spare out for the video or something. Anyway, I'd rather keep it in the high position. There's enough room to put some random crap like my tool box, jumper cables, etc that I always keep in my car anyway.

The base ST isn't that expensive at all for all the standard features it comes with, not to mention the awesome powertrain. It's when you start adding features it ends up being $25,000 or more. The one I configured on Ford's site with these extra costs: Molten Orange $595, Recaro Package $1995, Navigation $795, ended up being $25,580 after a base price of $21,400, destination of $795, and added options of $3,385. Nav is probably a bit more pricy than it should be considering probably all they do is install the firmware to make it work in the MFT system but I'd rather have a built in unit since it's already got a nice big screen for it. It does add up pretty quick if you want more than standard features. Not that it's not worth it because you get a lot for the price still but you'll find a lot of people don't want to spend $25,000 on a small FWD car like the Fiesta and they'd rather have something like the FR-S which starts at a base price of $25,255 which is just under what my configured Fiesta ST would cost and you get a lot less standard in that car.

I thought the only Recaro option it comes with is partial leather? The standard cloth seats aren't Recaro are they?
The standard cloth seats are the same seats used in the regular S, SE, and Ti Fiestas with an ST seat skin, no real great bolstering of any kind. The Recaros are a $1,995 option that's both cloth and leather. If you look at the interior pics on the first page, the grey is leather and the orange is cloth.

Another thing I thought of. I was backing the car up on an incline and the hill holder works good. On that same incline my ZX2 would have started rolling forward. It was good to have considering I wasn't real used to the Fiesta's clutch. It seems to engage sooner than my ZX2 clutch. I managed not to kill it on the test drive. But after I got back in my car I wasn't letting the clutch go enough. :p

For those of you that think you may not like the molten orange because it's too red in the pictures, here's a slightly better representation of what it looks like in the sun. The only thing with this video is you can't really see much of the metallic flake, but the orange is more apparent.

One more thing I thought of to review the Fiesta on, the brakes stop pretty well. I wasn't slamming the brakes on or anything, but just slowing and stopping for a stop sign I noticed they grabbed pretty well. They should perform good in a track environment.

I'm headed to the Ecoboost Challenge this Saturday so I'll post up more pictures probably and a review on the handling aspect since I didn't really touch on that with a mainly highway test drive.

Been kinda lazy to reply about my experience at the Ecoboost Challenge. I already posted a reply about the entire event in the Ecoboost Challenge thread, I'll just outline the ST here. I was originally going to drive the Focus ST around first to get a feel for the track and then drive the Fiesta next, but since we were limited to two times through, two laps each time (I asked if we could go through more than twice, but nope), I ended up just taking the Fiesta around both times because I'd rather drive the car I want to actually buy. Anyway, my first lap around was the slow lap to get a feel for the track. The second lap I pushed it as fast as I felt I could do. I know some people were pushing it harder by the sound of the tires screeching and I rarely screeched the tires. I did feel like I got it up on three wheels at one time. The handling on this car is outstanding. I don't feel any turbo lag at all. Push the gas pedal down and it moves. The brakes are so great that you can wait until the last second to brake for the turn. I never felt like I lost control of the car and I was pushing it harder than I ever think I could push my ZX2 modified for handling. Lap 3 and 4 I got a different car but it handled exactly the same. Pushed it hard both laps. I never remembered to look at my lap times though. I wish I could have gotten more runs because I would have kept getting back in line for quite awhile if I could. The Dallas event didn't seem nearly as packed as the other events were said to be. I think the longest I waited in line was 8 or so minutes, if even that. With how hot it was outside and the fact that the cars were constantly being run hard by pretty much everyone driving with very few breaks, you could smell the engines burning.

Here's a video of the track I found.

Here's the pictures of the STs at the event.

Yeah, I've looked online to see specs on all the dealer order ones and finding one without a moonroof is near impossible. I don't really want one because of the lack of reliability of them. However if I was buying now and a dealer got me a good deal on a dealer stock one with a moonroof with all the other options I wanted I'd be very tempted to go for the offer over waiting. Unfortunately I won't be getting one for awhile so I'll be waiting anyway. :p I'll more than likely end up ordering one.

I figure since my first review was on this thread might as well not make a new thread...another very long review, read at your own risk. :p

On another note, I really still kinda wish I would have gotten into the Fiesta Movement. I probably wouldn't have been an amazing agent as far as the monthly missions, but I know I could have learned a whole lot more about the car after daily driving it. Seeing as how much review info I've got on the car in three test drives and a couple trips around a track... haha. Oh well, it is what it is. I definitely enjoy the short amount of time I get to test drive my dream car. One of these days I'll have one. Hopefully sooner than later. On to the review...part 2.

I was at home for the Christmas break so I decided to go show my mom the Fiesta ST to see what she thought of it. As a bonus I got to see the Green Envy in person, test out both the regular and Recaro seats, finally brought my iPod along to plug it into the system and test out the sound system, the green car was a moonroof-less car so I actually confirmed and took pictures of the mythical missing sunglass holder (never actually seen anyone take that picture yet), I tried the dual height hatch floor again and figure out the trick, and got a bunch more shots of both the green and orange.

First off, the Green Envy is an amazing color in person as well. It's unfortunately just like the Molten Orange in that it would take some pretty good cameras and camera work to really show what the colors look like in person. It was overcast today so I didn't get to see it in all it's glory with the sun out, but it's still better looking in person even with no sun. I would have to say I'm pretty torn on these two colors now, but ultimately the orange is where it's at. If the orange didn't exist, no doubt in my mind the green would be my choice.

I was surprised when the salesman told us we could go out and drive it without him. I haven't taken a ton of test drives but the salesman was always with me on the ones I've taken. I would think especially with a car like the Fiesta ST, a performance oriented car, they'd rather have someone in there with you. On the up side, because of that I took a little more time to play with stuff without feeling like the salesman was staring me down waiting for me to hurry up. Maybe it's because I looked older with a short goatee growing from the past week-ish I've been off work (this is my 5th year in college and I've been asked more than once in the past what high school I go to...), or maybe he just does that all the time.

I took the green car first because the orange car's battery was dead. The options were pretty minimal. It had the cloth seats, silver wheels, no moonroof, and I'm not positive on the navigation because we couldn't locate an SD card for it and I didn't check the window sticker. I sat down on the regular cloth seats. They weren't absolutely terrible, but they definitely weren't really made to be in a car that does good cornering. One thing I looked at as soon as I got in was the taller roof because of the lack of a moonroof as well as the lack of a sunglass holder. Up to that point I hadn't ever seen anyone who'd taken a picture of the headliner of one without a moonroof to show that it's really missing, so I had to see for myself. :p The rear headroom is greatly increased as well. If you regularly have average sized adults in the rear seats, they will tank you for not buying one with a moonroof.

I finally remembered to bring my iPod and a cable to plug it in so I could test it out on the MFT system and see how good or bad the speakers sounded. As soon as the iPod connected it started playing no problem. Once I got going I turned up the music a bit and I was actually kinda impressed with the amount of bass produced without a subwoofer. That's not to say a subwoofer wouldn't complement it all being as I have a full audio system in my current car, but I guess if that's really the only drawback to moving from my ZX2 to the Fiesta ST, I'm doing pretty good. I didn't play around with the MFT a whole lot, and I wish the navigation SD card was inserted so I could see the nav in action, but unfortunately even with everything you want to try out on a test drive the actual driving is the biggest part of it.

With the controversial dual height hatch floor and people not being able to get it down on the bottom level...I played with it a bit since I didn't have a salesman staring me down wondering what on earth this idiot was doing. I found that pushing the floor all the way under the pegs poses the problem that people are having in that it pushes the floor too far down under the spare tire level so you drop the floor and it gets hung up on the spare tire and won't go down anymore. The trick is to push it under the pegs, let it drop on the spare, then pull it out of the pegs as you let it go down under the pieces that hold the floor up near the hatch. You gotta put a little force into it because it's got rubber where it contacts the pegs and it's a tight squeeze. Keep pulling it out and it will eventually even out and drop down on top of the spare tire. That's the lower level. Without the full sized spare I don't think you'd have an issue getting it to the lower level. Several pictures will be provided down after the "review". I still prefer it on the upper level to store stuff down below. that I don't want sitting on top of the false floor.

On another note, I saw many people up North who have to defrost their cars in the morning before work are complaining about the horn honking when you get out of the car because it lets you know the key is outside and the problem being they don't like getting honked at when they know they key is outside the car and the car is on and their neighbors and family that are still asleep get a little annoyed at the honking. But the deal was not all Fiestas on here seem to do the honking. So I did a deliberate test on both cars to see what these cars were going to do. Not only did they not honk, but I watched the MFT screen and there was no interior chime or message on the screen as I opened the door, walked out with the key in pocket, and shut the door completely. I did a couple tests to make sure one wasn't a fluke. I walked all around the cars with them running and all doors closed key in pocket taking pictures of them. No honk, and at that point even if there was a message and interior chime, it wouldn't be seen or heard. I have test driven three Fiesta STs, none of them honked upon exit, only one chimed and showed a message on the MFT screen... I have no idea why some do and some don't. While I don't exit my car a lot when it's going, I wouldn't mind getting one that didn't honk though. haha

As far as the driving went, I saw the hill holder in action again as I let off the brake and expected to roll back a bit on the hill and didn't. Both Fiestas obviously drive the same. Still have plenty of pick up. I stayed in residential areas so I didn't get past 4th gear. The Fiesta still has plenty of power for me. I got in my car later to do a WOT acceleration and was disappointed. :p

I took the green car back and the salesman had the orange car open so we sat in it and my mom saw the immediate difference in the seats between the regular and Recaro. I got to compare them side by side basically. It's another orange set of Recaros, the options were exactly the same as the first car I test drove at the beginning of this thread. Molten Orange, moonroof, nav, orange Recaros, and grey wheels. The wheels are something I was decidedly going to get silver at first, but having seen two molten orange with the grey wheels they are growing on me, and considering I have grey wheels on my current car... The price tag is just a bit steep for a little bit of grey paint and I could care less for the red calipers. I'll likely end up with the silver wheels. As I said, unfortunately it was overcast, so again, the orange didn't shine as bright without the sun. However just looking at it in person looks more orange than the pictures.

A bit of back tracking...the cars were back in the back lot where they have as many cars as possible packed into a lot. Getting the green car out wasn't too hard, but the small size and turning ability of the Fiesta made it a snap. Trying to do that in a Mustang might be difficult. But the orange car was tucked in back behind a telephone pole. Turning right out of the parking spot would be just about impossible. So I went the other way around and the fit trying to turn in between the fence and the front end of another car in a space that any normal car could barely park in was pretty tight. I was able to miss both the fence and car, drive through the spot and out of the lot with relative ease, I just went slow because there was no way I was going to be crashing the car. So I drove the orange car and definitely liked the Recaro seats hugging me in compared to the cloth seats. My mom was pretty snug, but she wasn't complaining, she actually said she liked them. One thing I forgot to test, being it was a bit cool outside, was the heated seats. I remembered about them in the green car, but of course they weren't there then. Back in September when I test drove the first one it was still way too hot in Texas to even think about heated seats. The test drive went about the same other than the seats definitely feeling better. On my way back I was at a stop light on a two lane each way road. Of course I can't have enough of the acceleration, but I kept it slow off the line because I'm still not used to the clutch (although I never have yet stalled it). The Nissan sedan next to me takes off a little bit quicker than me. Then I get going and do a WOT run to 40 (speed limit 35) and pass the sedan with ease. A couple seconds later the sedan zooms by, it was hilarious. Just so happens there was one of those gauges that shows your speed up ahead and he passed it going 65. I wasn't trying to race him or anything, I didn't try and keep up and I never looked over at him trying to get him to race. I just wanted to test drive my car how I would drive it as I would own it. These boring car drivers are intimidated. :)

I can't think of anything else to say at the moment, so here's the pictures. As I said, it was overcast, along with the fact that neither color photograph well and my camera was just set on auto for today so the pictures really don't show the paint color in all their glory. On another note, if you wanted to see an orange or green with window tint, both of these have dealer installed tint on them. If you want a laugh, make sure you check out the rear end shots of the orange one. Whoever decided not only was that a good place for the dealer emblem, but that it was level, was probably drunk... And you guys thought the dealer decal on the first car looked bad...
