Bought my ST yesterday, might have been the best day of my life. I bought the car in Vegas and live in Utah (so it was a long day). Anyways the guy told me that I should take my car to the dealership to have any maintenance done, otherwise they could (and likely would) void my warranty. Sounded like total B.S. to me.

Anyone have some info on this? Is he just a total idiot or is it possible they could void my warranty for changing my own oil, etc. Pretty sure it was just his way of scaring me into buying the extended warranty and maintenance package, but I want to be sure.

thanks

Typical salesman's lies.
As long as you perform all the recommended maintenance and have receipts for things like oil & filters, you will never have to see the dealer again, if you so choose. Be sure to keep your own written records for dates, mileage, and task preformed.

There is the Magnussen-Moss warranty act that regulates warranties. Find it, read it, it will tell you all you need to know.

Short story, the manufacturer can not legally void a warranty unless the maintenance or modification done to the car is the root cause of the problem or your use was outside of what they cover (racing).

Its hard for a manufacturer to prove any of those things but its easy for them to bully you if you let them.

Nice, another Utah ST owner! Like mentioned, the dealer was full of it. Just keep a record of the oil changes & maint.

Is that a DR350 in your profile picture?
Dr650, me and a bunch of buddies have enduros and ride all over the mountains. I love Utah :) me and the other Utah guys have a private thread going but it wouldn't let me add you, we should all get together sometime!

Since you're already in Utah, the Octane Academy is real close. I expect that you will be attending? Did you salesman inform you that attendance is free since you bought an ST?

oh yes, I was aware of that from the start thanks to you guys :) ironically one of the salesmen didn't know much about it so I helped him out and showed the customer the website and talked about it. Very excited, have only heard good things
