Holding pedals in auxillary or with running engine?

Just re-read my comment and realize that holding the gas pedal down while the engine running wouldn't likely be a good option. For some reason I was thinking clutch and brake. Do you get any indication that it is reset if you didn't previously run it down to 0? I just did my first change at 1500 so there was no indication light on.
