I've had Thule (regular and aero) and Yakima (round). I prefer Yakima because I like how everything works and the carriers mount to the rack bars. The Thule stuff looks more modern but is over engineered and tends to have more pieces to loose and it doesn't seem to be as simple to connect a carrier to the bar. For my FiST I'm planning on the Whispbar through racks (Yakima bought Whispbar) because there the most efficient and I hated my Thule setups. Round Yakima racks are the most versatile but are the loudest and cause the most drag.

I ended up buying my wife a Tacoma Double Cab and bought the factory rack option for it.

As far as the Q clips I've had on other cars, they can mar the paint if you're careless when setting them up especially if they get dropped and have little nicks on them. Take your time and make sure everything is seated correctly. I used some 3M clear bra material to protect the paint on my GTI by making little protected areas to go under the clips and spots where the landing pads sit.

Also a buddy of mine keeps a piece of 440 parachute cord wrapped around his front bar. It stops the wind noise and the humming,
