There are a few previous threads discussing just this. I went with the Blizzaks, I'm in Colorado and I've had a great experience with them so far. Many people have gotten smaller wheels and changed the sizing of the tires. I stuck with the 17s and everything has been fine. I just made sure to order my new tires and wheels with sensors so I could train them to the car.
snow tires for stock rims

I brought my new fiesta st home a couple days ago and I absolutely LOVE it. Well, that is outside of the tires that came on it! With only 40 miles on the car, it couldnt make it up a mild hill because of a very small amount of snow on the ground. My plan is to put some winter tires on the stock wheels, and put these tires on some summer wheels, perhaps the Team Dynamics.
Have any of you done the same? There doesnt seem to be a whole lot of winter tires to choose from. Bridgestone Blizzaks appear to be an option in 205/45r17.
any suggestions would be great!

I dropped to 15's for winter and looking now i don't see many if any 205/40/17 snow/winter tires around . The main reason i went to 15 was they cost as much for wheels and a set of Blizzaks in 15's as the tires and mounting would have cost to go with stock wheels IIRC correctly .. and at that time i was thinking of saving my stock tires for summer use so a extra set of rims was a no brainer for me, At this late date maybe if you can get away with it a 3 season or All season tire could work.. Just sayin.. I know others have run 16 inch winter tires with good luck too...
The only time I ever ran snow tires, I ran Blizzaks. This was on my WRX for a two week stint in Oregon. I did a tour around the crater and spent time on trails around Mt. Hood.

I ran 205/40 17 Blizzak's on the ST and had great luck with them, however, I suggest going with a 15" wheel with a narrow tire. A narrow tire cuts into the snow better, the extra sidewall protects the wheel from pot holes and debris, and the smaller wheel keeps the rim out of the snow so there is less build-up to put the wheel out of balance. Also, chances are very good that the dealer will destroy the stock wheels when they install the snow tires. A few seasons of swapping tires and the wheels are junk. I run 14" snow tires on my 2011 Fiesta and the cost of 4 wheels and tires was much less than 16" snow tires that I could install on an extra set of 16" wheels I had laying around.
im surprised you can run 14s on the fiesta and clear the brakes! I think it makes sense for me to pick up some 15" donuts and put some aggressive snow tires on them. What width did you guys go with and what offset for a 15? Also, what size tires with how much sidewall? I would like to keep the diameter as close to stock as I can.

the 14" wheels are on my 2011 Fiesta, not the ST. You need 15" wheels or larger to clear the ST brakes.im surprised you can run 14s on the fiesta and clear the brakes! Yes 15's work just fine on a ST and make the brakes look huge in that so called tiny wheelthe 14" wheels are on my 2011 Fiesta, not the ST. You need 15" wheels or larger to clear the ST brakes.
I also went with the 15" package from tire rack. Blizzak WS70s on cheap alloys. FYI the factory spare is the same size as my snows. Running a full size spare in the winter now. 185/60-15
I also have that size with ford factory steelies.. Having a tuxedo black ST I like the look
