I put the bung in the sound symposer tube...reinstalled tube...stock...but no sound symposer noisezzz....I would rather hear what the car is really doing than listening to fake whatever noises...maybe I am a purist...but I want to hear what is really going on with the little beasty...especially when the mountune dp and cbe are available...real/fake noise is better than BMW's totally fake exhaust noise pumped through the speakers...either way, I'm all set

Update...btw, it seems my Ingot Silver FiST is faster...and oh, I removed the spare tire and the extra's...and the golf bag...Not sure, but whatever boost air that is pushed into the symposer, once gone, the car feels different....or I am fully experiencing mountune's full induction kit along with Randy Robles's tune without symposer noise?...I am installiing the mountune FMIC tomorrow...will check with Randy if more air flow needs tuning

Faster with the symposer plugged!? If data shows this to be true, It's something I would do. There must be a link showing how it's done. ?

It's all in your head, ie placebo-effect. The symposer is simply a box with a diaphram in it that vibrates with the induction noise/pulses. If you want to eliminate the "noise", just pull the hose off the box and stuff a paper towel into the box and into the hose. All done, aural feedback is "real" and looks OEM.

Just consider the physics and you'll see the fallacy in the "faster" assertion.

Wow! Btw, there is boost air to create symposer noise...physics!...Whatever...I like hearing the blow off noise and the exhaust sound without the symposer fake noise...faster, it may not be faster...but hearing what our car is actually doing, I like it more betterer...and to make the symposer noise, it does need air from the charge pipe...I may have been redundant....my apologies

Update: I do not miss the sound symposer at all. In fact, I have forgotten it was ever there. I am liking the "natural" sounds of the car as it allows me to feel more connected while up-shifting and rev matching whilst down shifting...btw, look up sound symposer delete and I am sure you will find out how to close up the bung hole. Cheers!

there seems to be a misconception about the sound symposer. It isn't fake sound at all. The intake is piped to a membrane in the firewall, and the sound waves travel in the tube to the membrane, just as Forzda2 said. It is actual intake pulses that vibrate and amplify the membrane. The Focus ST uses a different system for the sound symposer, but it is still based on actual engine sounds. I think many people are convinced the sound symposer is like what some luxury cars are doing, which is add in recorded engine sounds and play them thru the speakers. To suggest the sound on the Fiesta ST is fake is simply incorrect.

As part of the Fiesta Movement, my brother spent a day with the sound engineers at SVT who went into great detail on how the sound symposer works and how exhaust systems are tuned.

I think the membrane is on the engine though in the little black ox not in the car though there may be a dust or critter screen in the car to keep things out.. Somebody took one apart on one of the forums to illustrate this ours is just like a Kazoo in that it has no moving parts other than the membrane in the black box mounted on the engine and it is a very easy delete.

The Box would be the Number 3 in below pic where the membrane is the rest to the car is a sound tube

I'm glad Ford named it a sound symposer instead of an engine kazoo. :)
LOL Yes, well it is more of a kazoo really. It sure helps with the gas mileage too. If you drive with a light right foot so as to not energize the kazoo, the engine vacuum remains relatively high (fewer pulses and smooth pressure transitions) and mileage improves!

Oh, and in case I didn't mention it before I have "disabled" my FiestaST kazoo with a couple of paper towels. One stuffed into the box and one into the hose...

The sound only occurs because the Ford engineers put a tube from here to there...so that means it is fake, unnatural and not real...it might come from a "real" source, but does not occur naturally in combustion engines...aka fake...pulses membranes...but, definit

Oh come on. He meant it's not synthesized by a electric box or played through the speakers like other cars. I know you knew that too, you are just being confrontational.

That's like saying the exhaust notes aren't real because they go through muffler chambers that change the sound before it exits the car.

Btw, if you want to keep it stock without ripping out the symposer tubes, install the 1.25 dia bung below #4 feature in Rodmoe's diagram...make sure you tighten the nut to expand it enough so it has enough friction against the plastic symposer diameter, so when you actually tighten the nut, it doesn't spin the bung in the hole..and that is fun to type!

So, why don't you go to a forum of just you since any time someone questions you or is a different view point from yours, or (gasp) wants to have a discussion around things, you reply with a stupid deflection like the above post.

"Hey, what is the reason you are doing that?"

"I LIKE DONUTS. I LOVE THEM!!!!"
