The Load Floor

I got my FiST yesterday and couldn't get the load floor to go to the lower position. Today I took out the spare and noticed that the spare tire is actually larger than the cutout for it and as a consequence it is difficult to lower it into the hole completely level. I think the tire touches the sides, and not the bottom. After adjusting it to a more level position, I was able to get the load floor into the lower position.

One thing I hadn't noticed until today was that the load floor has spring loaded tabs on the sides of the baggage area which will keep it in the up position so you can have access to the lower area without having to hold it up. VERY nice!

I have one of those soft-sided foldable dog crate I use for my 70lb dog in the car, and the crate fits really nice under the load floor when it is in the upper position. This is going to be a very useful feature for me!

Thanks for the work on figuring out about how best to carry bikes. It would be great to be able to carry my road race and TT bikes both inside.
Have you considered taking out both the 60% and 40% backrests? How hard was it to get the 40% out?

I realize that the rear bottom cushion will still be there.

Will one bike fit in there with the rear seats folded down? Probably with front wheel off. I have a 29er mountain bike that I current carry on my bike rack connected to my hitch receiver on my current car, but I really don't want a hitch receiver on the Fiesta and those trunk/hatch mounted ones are definitely a no go. I would have liked to test it, but my mountain bike is kinda dirty so the dealer wouldn't have wanted me to put it in their new car.

It should fit fine unless it is huge, my 60cm road bike fits OK with the front wheel off, rear seats down, and the passenger seat fully forward...

It's a pretty normal sized bike. 17.5" frame, 29" wheels. I don't think I'd have a problem, but it would be kind of a problem if it didn't fit.

I agree that you should have no trouble with one bike on its side with front wheel off.

My current NX2000 has almost exactly the same hatch area (with rear seats down) and my 52cm road bike fits fine (with the front wheel off). I can then stack an extra set of wheels (on their side) without a problem.

I was hoping with the higher roof line of the FiST and the rear seat backs removed (as the OP was experimenting with), I would be able to have two bikes, side-by-side, upright, with their front wheels off.

I wouldn't do a roof rack either... If you're not used to how much taller it makes your clearance or just plain forget it's up there one day you will hear a crunch and you've taken out your bike, roof rack, and messed up your roof pretty good and probably damage whatever it was you hit as well.

I did remove both and half of the seats - it's actually super easy. All you need is a T50 torx wrench and a flat-head screwdriver.

Since your only options are removing only the 40% or both 'halves' - you can't remove only the 60% - what I've done for now is remove only the 40%. I have a Saris Tracks rack which fits the hatch area PERFECTLY, and with both wheels off and a small foam block under the bottom bracket, the bike fits great - facing backwards. I figure when road season rolls around, since it's literally a <5min job to remove the 60% section as well, I'll remove that to fit two bikes in the back. I'll post some pictures ASAP.

FWIW I also have a Seasucker rack for when a third bike wants in on the action.

A roof rack wouldn't cause me any concerns at all in regards to roof clearance.... As I am coming from driving a Raptor...

It does however wreck your MPG. As that is one of the appeals to this car, it seems that it could be a hefty sacrifice for some of the more economy oriented minds.

Even an empty roof rack is known to drop the MPG noticeably.

Bug... or Feature? I like having the "dual height" cargo floor. In the high position you can put things under it that you don't want to be in plain sight. In the low position (it does fit flush, w/a little fiddling) you have extra height and then you can use your modesty panel (turned upside down) as a little bin to keep things from falling under your seats.

Interesting! I never thought about using the rear cargo cover the way you have it pictured.

I don't have a cargo net or anything, so I keep my jumper cables, oil filters, towel small air compressor, tool kit, ice scrapper, coolant, and windshield washer fluid underneath (so right on top of the spare). The stuff doesn't really move around so it works pretty well for me.

I tried lowering mine today for the first time.. Took about a minute.. Gives more cargo space..

Just ordered a silver st, and I'm looking to do a false floor sub setup. Can anyone measure the height from the sheet metal section of the floor to the bottom of the load floor panel in the upper position? Maybe right at the front plastic brackets? Everything I've read so far says 5-6", but that isn't specific enough as it's the difference in fitting and not. Thanks.
