I would not go any bigger than 17" wheels on the Fiesta. I am really close to hitting the inner fenders with P215/40 17 tires. Going lower profile to knock the diameter down would put the wheel at more risk. Plus, 18 and 19 inch wheels add more weight, which I have found to be a performance killer on small cars. I haven't tried heavier wheels on the ST, but going to the 17" wheels on my Fiesta really drags down the performance. The more wheel weight means the more unsprung weight, more rotational mass to accelerate and slow down.
Probably lower profile tires would degrade the ride too much as well. Hence the comment about needing bigger wheel arches so you can have larger wheels while maintaining the same profile aspect for the tires.

As to wheel weight, no doubt it's important - but as I mentioned in another thread if you are willing to pay the premium I'm sure you can find some super-lightweight forged rims at 18/19" that would not weigh significantly more than the standard OEM 17s. Tires would be a bit heavier though. Of course other aspects of the car's design would also need to be altered to go with a bigger wheel package, such as suspension setup.

I'm surprised that no auto company has realized yet what it could do for its sales of subcompacts in the youth market if it designed its subcompacts to accommodate slightly bigger wheels (Mini is an exception here, but it is more of a premium market car). The ridiculously high side and rear heights of even subcompacts these days call out for larger wheels to maintain visual proportion. A FiST is 57" tall - that is 8" taller than a C7 Corvette for heaven's sake, and even 1" taller than a Cobalt SS. A Honda Prelude from the 90s, a compact class car, was less than 51" high.

I doubt bigger wheels shows up on 99.999% of small car buyers wish lists. It is MPG, then price, then interior room, then cargo room, and way down at the end is performance and image. The only real questions I get concerning the Fiesta (which started back in early 2009 with the EU car) has been all about MPG, price, and interior room. Going with a shorter roof height and larger wheel openings reduces the interior space, which is a prime complaint of small cars. Comparing the height of the Fiesta to a C7 Corvette is a little silly. One is a 2 person sports car and the other is a 5 passenger econobox. The Fiesta needs to be compared to cars in its class, which is the Fit, Sonic, and Versa. They all tend to have high roof lines and smaller wheels. The Mini is more of a niche' car, and not a high volume seller. People buy those for image more than function. The Fiesta ST buyer isn't the typical B-segment person, but it would be too expensive to develop a stand-alone B-segment chassis just for the ST. The Puma was the closest thing to that concept, and it did not last too long. (Sad since it was full of awesomesauce)

I am 100% happy running 17" wheels and would not want to go any bigger. I will be going to a 215/40 tire size to get a little extra sidewall for rim protection and wider foot print. The visual problem with going with bigger wheels is that they make the already little looking brakes look even smaller.

yeah, it came out better than I expected. This was just a temporary test fit so I could decide if I wanted to keep my Axis wheels, go with Tarmacs, or do something totally different. The result means I am keeping my Axis wheels for the ST. :)

Are they the same size as the stock wheels? Also how expensive are they? I don't think i'm going to be able to stop thinking about those wheels for weeks. I'm going to need snow tires, and those wheels are you just too great, but then again I don't want to steal your style.

Don't worry about stealing my style, I am trying to inspire others to make great looking cars. :) As for the price, well, they are priceless in the fact that they are the only 4 x 108 Axis Touring Cups known to exist. There was a silver set made in 1999 for a SEMA Focus, and another set made in white set for me. I had these made for my 2000 Focus and have kept them ever since then. The wheels are 17" x 7" wide and have P215/40 17 tires. I prefer the taller sidewall and wider tread width. It does make the car sit higher, but I am ok with that.

If you like the Touring Cups, I would look at the fifteen52 Tarmacs in white. Those would be my wheel of choice if I did not have the Axis wheels. With white, prepare for a lot of wheel cleaning since they get dusty quick. I am ok with that since the car looks awesome and the ST pads have the stopping power of a brick wall.

Wow, thats really cool. How did you convince them to make a set for you?
Don't really remember, other than picking out a wheel with a 4 x 100 BC and then had them drilled for 4 x 108. They added steel inserts so the lug nut doesn't dig into the soft aluminum. They made some hub rings for me, but most have been lost over the years. I need to machine a new set. I got really lucky with the wheels. How many wheel styles still look great after 14 years? It takes a very special design to last that long.
Dude those wheels look amazing on the st. Id keep them to man.
Looks Great !! not a big fan of white wheels for upkeep reasons but those look STUNNING
look good but my preference go to tarmac .

do you think tarmac in 17x8 work with this st ?
I don't know about the 8" wide part, but it would depend on the offset. I am not sure if I have seen any Fiesta's running 17" x 8" Tarmacs, so I would call fifteen52 directly and ask.
The wheels look great! I haven't seen many wheels for the ST that I like. I've liked those axis wheels since they came out.

yeah, I have loved those wheels since the first day I saw them. There used to be a white ITR and blue Civic Si that would be at track days and autocrosses , both of them running white Axis Touring Cups. Both of those cars really set the tone for the last 13 years of cars for me.
Sweet now if they only came with the 5-100 or 5-114 lug pattern conversion package !! LOL I would be golden :rotfl::hungry::woot:
wow look sexy , but when i see you pictures the tarmac look more 18inch than 17 but i love too much the style .
if you are news from tarmac for the fit , can you pm me ( my English is not very good , i m french canadian )
thank s a lot BRGT350
@doudou sizing the wheels using my phone isn't an exact science, so they do look a little bigger than 17". It is a fun app to download for an iPhone since you can put any of the fifteen52 wheels on a picture. Shopping carts, golf carts, real cars, fork trucks, just about anything with wheels can be used.
