Is anyone here familiar with this group? I found them in a generic search, but they give the impression of being organized. The site is pretty tidy, the rates are fair, and they have a current schedule!

I was hoping a group track day would pop up, but since nothing has recently, I'll give it a go with this post. I have no interest in renting the track and hiring a crew -- I just want to show up and drive! :)

I'm interested in trying out Streets of Willow in my new FiST, and other tracks later, of course. It has been many years since I've run at SoW, so I thought this would be a good way to ease back into it.

There are events later this month and next month (JAN/FEB).

What do you guys think? Most every track day would work for me. I prefer to run it clockwise and on a Saturday (but I think most clockwise days are Sundays).

I'm registered for 2/2/2014 -- Super Bowl Sunday! I have used this day for road trips in the past, and it has been wonderfully quiet and low traffic. :)

Reply here or send me a PM if you want to go. Even if you don't want to run the event, you can go to watch and hang out (though you need to plan for it being cold and very little in the way of food/drink accommodations).

Register here for $120:

I don't think I will be able to make this but I will try,
The problem is that the SoW eats tires, so I would need to buy another set.
I also need a new helmet so I don't know if I can afford a $2,000.00 weekend.

No sweat, Dave. I'm really just looking to scout SoW so that I can report back on conditions, the organizers, and whether we should aim to take our cars there for a group run. I'm also shaking off some rust and sorting out my gear. I hope they don't cancel the event! There were only six others signed up, and I think they want something close to 20 to break-even (I think we'll get there).

SoW is hard on tires. I like SoW because I believe it's a better course for our cars, compared to the high horsepower necessary at the big track; we'll show better versus the "faster" cars at SoW. :)

Small cars can be just as competitive on the big track as well.
I use to run my Mini with the big boys and had no problems with them.
Yes they could beat me down the straight but were no contest in the corners.
I even had Cobras blue flagged to let me by.

I know the FiST will do just as well.

Big tracks with small cars is big fun, but that isn't the same thing as being competitive overall. A fast car will be many many seconds faster on the big track, assuming equal driving ability, We're talking about the car here.

That's an awesome photo, and I have experience with the Porsche Owners Club doing that very thing with my old 200SX SE-R, only to have my doors blown off on every straight. That nearly one mile straight (on the big track) is a whole lot of tarmac to fend people off. :)

It's fun to say you diced with expensive cars and beat them in the turns, but I'm just saying that SoW suits a small, relatively low HP car like ours, better.

They made SoW a little better sometime back (fixed a couple funky turns). Run it in the last several years? I have not, and hope it's fun. Let's go find out! :)
Actually I was 1 second faster in the '04 Mini with 220 WHP (yes mods were done) than with my '65 Mustang with 550 WHP.

Don't be scared and drive that thing! :p

Seriously, just look at lap times in, ahem, *modern* big HP cars. I ran with Vipers and kept it sporting in the tight stuff, but talk about a car that's scary fast on the big track! There are many faster, yet.

I'm betting you're a pretty good driver, and I like your enthusiasm. Let's get the FiST runs together!

I am just an armature but I have had a lot of experience.

I will get the FiST up there.
It is just that money just isn't the same.

Right! You have a Tuxedo Black FiST too. It would be great to see you there.

What do you think about this car versus your STi at Streets? ;)

Great to see you found your keyboard. :)

I do hope to join you as well.
The only thing stopping me now is tires.

These guys also rent track cars! It's expensive, but includes everything. I'm more interested in learning stuff about my car, but this could be fun.

The Miata is a logical build, and maybe even the Boxster -- but if I rented something, I'd want to check out that "Thunder Roadster"! :)
Yes, but that would be expensive.

I just spoke to Joel at Extreme Speed.
ANYONE that signs up for this day from this group, enter discount code "SOW49"
The price will be $90.00 not $120.00.

If anyone has already registered, they will be compensated.

You're a good man, Dave.

We should make sure everyone knows the fine print here, too. If you sign up with the discounted price, you cannot get a refund if you cancel. Ordinarily you can do that if you are two weeks out. This is about the only negative thing that came up when researching this group. There was, apparently, a bit of a disagreement on this point from a guy from another forum. I'm neutral on that issue and have no need to rehash it here.

I don't want my refund in t-shirts. ;)

Okay, all two of us so far! I think we're close to having enough that the event won't be canceled from under us. They didn't say, officially, but I know the track is about $2500/day to rent. Factor in the flag/safety crew and the ambulance, and they're in at least 2x that.

Let's make this "Fiesta @ SoW". I can see that on a t-shirt. :)
Joel said,
In all the time they have been doing this, they only canceled a Willow event once.
That was because it snowed.

Let's hope "late apex" can make it as well.
