Track Day: Extreme Speed Track Events (WSIR:Horse Thief Mile)

Since we had so much fun at SoW, I thought I'd post on this upcoming event at WSIR. I just talked to Joel at Extreme Speed, and he had this to say:

  • Event is on March 8th, 2014 (it's the track above SoW in the base of the hills)
  • Discounted to $75 for the day (coupon vouchers are okay for this event too)
  • includes lunch for the driver
  • includes use of a timing transponder (just like SoW)

Track overview:

Link to registration:

*I don't think coupon users will show up as registered users, so a few of us won't be on the tally that's listed online in real-time.

At 1 mile around, this is a very tight track and much smaller than even SoW. Joel says he thinks of this as more of a canyon run. It typically favors lighter, low HP cars (but all cars are welcome).

Who's in? My calendar is free right now and I'm planning to go!

Damn, I bought photos too.

The photographer said "your friends bought photos so you can add anything with your car or their car in the picture so I spent a lot of time adding everything from the blue group and pictures of D1JLs car in his group until the computer said "basket full".

It needed two CDRs to save all of them.

The bad part was it filled up before I found McRib's photos.

So I have a bunch of duplicated pictures but nothing that someone else forgot to buy.
That was a good track and I was happy with my times but a better driver in a bone stock FRS had two seconds on me.

My courage ran out before my car's speed did...

I think I'm reinforcing my notion that I can drive autocross better than a road course because the risk is more within my tolerance level.

Can you send me a few select ones (as many as you want) you'd want featured on the SoCal Fiestas Facebook page? Thanks!

Don't worry, Dave got those.

Oh, and glad you caught her before they closed up shop! :)
Yes, I got McRib's CD.
And if any missed were missed we can download them for free because we did buy the CDs.
You will need to call Tannya.
Photos are at http://www.CaliPhotography.com if you want to check.

I've edited and am currently rendering a (just under 4-minute) track video. It should be ready soon (it will say 'unavailable" until it's fully processed by YouTube).

Great photos and nice work on the video, DBS! :)

I haven't looked at the other online photos yet, but it would be nice to have a couple shots catching the white Lotus Exige or the fantastic sounding Boss 302! Those are very worthy adversaries and we gave them a full rear-view mirror over the course of the day!

I have in-car video of every lap, so I could post a video or two, too.

Thank you for grabbing that for me!

I didn't take any photos, but I applied the lap metadata overlay and made a couple videos of my faster laps. I'm afraid I still don't have my camera in a good location yet!

The quality isn't the best, but I have a fun multi-lap duel with a train of cars -- an E46 M3, a couple different Lotus', an S13 Nissan, an FR-S, and the very fast Boss 302. That was our entire group, that session!
McRib,
The photographer from Cali only shot the first two sessions of the gold group.

Also let me know if you want me to mail this CD.
I will be in Irvine next Saturday.

The other photographer stayed all day but has not yet posted any of his shots.

Those are very nice, thank you. From my mobile device, FB wanted a login, but it works the way you said it does from a full browser.

Rib-are you still on stock pads? Originals?
Did you remove the dust shields for the rotors?

My last track day was done on stock pads, Motul 600 fluid, and shields firmly intact! My brake pedal was very mushy since my pads were dangerously low. I was careful with the brakes.

So, I just bought a full set of SS lines from Hel USA, I'm buying a set of new OEM pads, sending my old pads to Porterfield (for R4 compound), and removing my heat shields. I'll investigate some brake cooling duct options too.

I expect to do all of this before our track day at Big Willow on 3/29!

I'll let everyone know when the Porterfield pads are available! :)

I personally had similar issues with Motul fluid and went back to the OE fluid, the sponge went away .
I have also done what you are planning to, on other cars.
I am sure you will find the Porterfield pads to be an excellent upgrade.
