What's up with the upshift light?

Has anyone else noticed how soon the upshift light comes on? It seems to want to keep the RPMs quite a bit below 2k during "normal" driving. It even wants me to me in 6th gear going up a steep hill at about 45mph. This is a hill that my 2011 couldn't do in 4th and required a downshift into 3rd. The ST does pull the hill in 6th, but holly cow it just doesn't seem right.

Normally I ignore that light, but was playing around to see what it wanted.

I didn't ever notice the upshift light in my test drive or either of the two drives at the Ecoboost Challenge. It's more of a suggestion, but putting an upshift light in an ST does seem kinda pointless. I guess it's for if you want to drive for MPGs. Rather than downshifting, you can put your foot down and the turbo will take over. I found this out after downshifting to accelerate after a slow truck moved out of the fast lane. Rather than downshifting I should have left it in the gear it was in and just put my foot down because I hit a high RPM in no time and hod to upshift again.
Those silly things are set up for best MPG and not always the best for real world driving ... Now if it were programmable and highly visible it might be useful as a Shift light. Wonder if a tune could adjust its on and off times ??? Hmmmm but I can't wait to see mine in real life maybe within the next month ... Lol
I suppose the one good thing about it is that it really blends in with the other info around it and it doesn't standout. All the new blue lighting. I seem to remember that my 2011 had a VERY bright yellow upshift light.

Yes, this is fully adjustable on the ECU and can be setup to be a simple shift indicator as well!
